The incident happened on Monday afternoon, April 17, when police in Ossining were called to a location on Dale Avenue where the student had been approached by an adult male, according to a joint statement released by Ossining Police Chief Kevin Sylvester and Ossining Union Free School District Superintendent Raymond Sanchez.
According to the statement, the man lured the student into his yard and possibly his home, where he may have engaged in "inappropriate touching."
A police investigation into the incident is now underway.
As a result of the incident, police increased their presence at school dismissals throughout Ossining to "provide a safe environment for our scholars and families," the statement said.
Additionally, school district faculty and staff are watching over the village's campuses as students commute to and from school.
"We are urging every family to be watchful not only of their own children, but also of their neighbors," the statement said, adding, "If you see something suspicious, call the police immediately. The safety of our scholars requires a community effort."
